Viuva Gomes red 2012 (500ml) | Colares | Portugal
The Viuva Gomes red 2012 comes from a tiny region in the north of Lisbon called Colares. These wines are so rare that there are only a handful of wineries and the wines are allocated to importers at the beginning of every year in small amounts. Colares wines are grown in sandy soils and they are resistant to phylloxera, many of the vines are over 100 years old. The main red grape here is called Ramisco which represents 70% of all the production in Colares. This wine displays aromas of blackberries, fresh herbs and spice and earthy notes. The palate is dry, with a medium body crunchy tannins, mouth watering acidity, black fruits and a distinct saline note on the long elegant finish. This wine can be enjoyed now with a few hours of decanting or can age in the cellar for 20 + years a remarkable rare and unique wine.
